It's not much to look at, is it?

Still, both sides of my family hail from Harrison county, of which Cadiz is the county seat, and in a way, it's "home" for me.

By the way, Lincoln spoke at a little settlement called "Cadiz Junction" near Cadiz on his way to Washington for his first inauguration. An Ohio historical marker commemorates this occasion. Alas, no one recorded the remarks he made there after having lunch. The hotel he rested at is no longer standing.Geoff Elliotthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07861071117040254491noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3831255577594231117.post-89789495636750589932008-01-17T19:55:00.000-05:002008-01-17T19:55:00.000-05:00I visited Cadiz this past summer of 2007. John lived in Stock twp, Harrison county; not far from Cadiz. He is buried there as well. John Simpson's son, Alexander, 1st cousin to Matthew, (and my 3rd great grandfather), moved to Illinois along with his son Fletcher and other Simpsons as well. They settled near Springfield, Il about 1850. Another interesting note is that Matthew Simpson was also cousin to Ulysses S. Grant. Grant's mother being a Simpson. Just to make another connection. Wonderful article on the Cadiz connection. Thanks.

JayAnonymousnoreply@blogger.com
