A blog that I really used to enjoy that shall remain nameless, one time a good majority of the board (Southerners) were discussing the Civil War. Interesting commentary and info. - at first. Needless to say, I could read between the lines of the insidiousness behind some of the comments and the veiled nature of it. When it turned into, "The South shall rise again!", I had to put my two cents in. "The South shall rise again for WHAT. Bringing back slavery first on your list?" What a creepfest. Needless to say, all of my comments were deleted without anyone addressing anything I said - all of it civil. Heh. And, what's with the weird obsession over state love? I 'love' New York, but c'mon, people, get with the program or I just might have to start burning Confederate flags on every street corner. :)Mini Choco-Pretzelshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06285289137841770948noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3831255577594231117.post-29116888029823392902011-06-17T05:50:51.554-04:002011-06-17T05:50:51.554-04:00Great blog, extraordinary that our country had suc...Great blog, extraordinary that our country had such an amazing character forge it's beginning - so far from the world of today's capital hill.

Iain
Editor
S&D Book Publishers
http://www.schieldenver.comAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3831255577594231117.post-38208075870011709392011-06-16T13:39:58.542-04:002011-06-16T13:39:58.542-04:00We thought you might be interested in this press r...We thought you might be interested in this press release about an interactive program we put in place with the Gettysburg Foundation...

http://www.marketwire.com/press-release/preserving-gettysburgs-battlefield-goes-interactive-with-help-of-stage-of-life-llc-1526629.htm

You are welcome to cover this story or make use of the material in the press release for your blog. I thought his tour with the Zouaves must have had something to do with it; the march written by his music director A. J. Vaas was a nationwide best seller. My own post (Musical tributes to a Civil War martyr: Elmer Ellsworth, the same day as yours, has four song covers. This post is slightly off-topic, as I am referencing your blog of September 2010 when you traveled to Egypt and were wondering about connections between Lincoln and the Ottoman Empire. Today (6/5/11) an exhibit opened at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art called "Gifts of the Sultan" where one of the exhibits is three porcelain bowls that Lincoln received from the Ottomans on the occasion of his inauguration (1860). There's a catalogue of the exhibit (also called "Gifts of the Sultan") available through amazon.com, and I assume the Lincoln bowls are mentioned in this book. The bowls are wonderful - white with engravings.Laurahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13886691560662552797noreply@blogger.com
